I always thought that the writer sitting at his desk with a glass of whiskey by his side was a cliche! Guess I was wrong! Ha ha!!! ;)

So? You sound like one of those crazy people in the park.

Nobody said anything about protecting your privacy from Facebook. This is about having privacy from your boss, your mother, and your stable of boyfriends. And sure, Facebook doesn't really care about that either, but they had to do it to compete with Google. Users wanted it, and Google had it. Facebook didn't, but now they do.

I personally don't care what Facebook knows about me. I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it. The more the better they can service me. If I do anything on the internet, I'm going to be marketed to. I'd much rather the marketing be accurate. I notice nobody is trying to see me Shrek dolls or ammunition or convince me to go see Shariah Carey in concert or whatever.

This was on the enpeearruh a week or so ago. Facebook is sitting back chuckling and rubbing its oily hands together slowly and deliciously while it watches you craft your little lists. The more dedicated your attention to categorizing your people, the more accurately facebook can separate the wheat from the chaff as regards your friends and your "friends." This makes it easier for marketers to target the people you care about with ads that will undermine their resistance--because oh, look, Hornbuckle shaves with a straight razor and wears Fluevogs so I will too yeehaw boing at last I will be cool like that! Facebook has not made the lists default because it cares about your privacy or because it thinks it's a great way to serve you better. Quite the opposite as usual. If you love your family and friends then tell facebook nothing. NOOOTHHIIIIIIIINNNNNNNG!!!11!!

P.S. OMG, Fluevogs makes frauenschoen?? I never knew! omigoooood, look! lookit those awesome chunky heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels!!! O, buy them, buy them everybody, and then we can be twiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnsssssssssssssssssssssssss...s...s...

Unbelievably, that morning you emailed me: 'things are pretty crazy here right now' -- you and I never talked much about it since then, and then I flew over the smoking ruins just a month later: it haunts us all.
